ROTTERDAM, Netherlands – 29 October 2024 – S4 Energy, a leader in grid-scale battery energy storage solutions in the Netherlands, announces the acquisition of LC Energy Grid Services (LCEGS), a Netherlands-based company specializing in high-voltage battery storage systems. This acquisition leverages LCEGS’s strong development capabilities with S4 Energy’s deep sector knowledge and construction capabilities to further strengthen S4 Energy’s position in the Dutch and European battery energy storage markets.
With the integration of LCEGS, S4 Energy will build on its existing portfolio of projects, which includes four 10 MW medium-voltage, 4-hour duration systems in the Netherlands, all scheduled to go online in 2025. Additionally, the acquisition further bolsters S4 Energy’s development pipeline, which now totals around 7.5 GW. Notable projects include a fully permitted 2 GWh energy storage facility in Groningen, set to be the largest in the Netherlands upon completion.
"This acquisition marks a significant step for our company, enhancing our ability to support the energy transition," said Bob Bouhuijs, CEO of S4 Energy. "By combining the expertise of S4 Energy and LCEGS , we can optimise grid capacity and flexibility to accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the system. As part of our mission, we are committed to building a fully integrated, pan-European battery energy storage platform that will be essential for delivering Europe’s decarbonization goals."
"We’re proud to join the S4 Energy family in our mission to become Europe’s largest independent flexibility provider," says Friso Huizinga, new Chief Development Officer of S4 Energy (previously Managing Director of LCEGS). “By merging LCEG's extensive pipeline with S4 Energy's construction and operational expertise, the company is ideally positioned to rapidly scale up in the Dutch market.”
